A gem-set bezel can double the price of a build, or add almost nothing. The variables that decide it — stone grade, setting style, and how many hours of handwork.

The Real Cost of a Custom Bezel: Stones, Setting and Time

“With a diamond bezel” is not a specification. It is a starting point for a conversation about three things that change the price by a factor of ten: the stones, the setting, and how the bezel was made in the first place.

Stones

Synthetic stones are optically identical to natural ones to the naked eye and cost a fraction. Natural stones vary in colour, clarity and cut, and the price sits in the consistency — a bezel of thirty stones where two are visibly warmer than the others looks wrong, and matching is most of the work.

Setting style

Pavé, channel, bezel-set and prong-set all produce a different surface. Pavé gives a continuous surface of sparkle and takes the longest to set. Channel is the most forgiving to wear and the most expensive to repair. Prong setting exposes each stone individually and is the easiest to service.

The bezel itself

Setting stones into a standard bezel is not the same as a bezel designed for stones. A proper gem-set bezel is cut with seats machined for the exact stone size, which is why a well-made one feels like a single object and a cheap one feels like a bezel with stones glued on.

Where the money goes

In a typical gem-set build, stones are a third of the cost, labour is a third, and the base bezel and finishing are the rest. That ratio is why “same stones, half the price” usually means a standard bezel and quicker setting — visible in the gaps between stones within a week of wearing it.

If you are considering stones, send the reference and the look you want. We quote stones, setting and base bezel as three separate lines so you can see what each one costs. More on custom work.
